Summary:

WisdomCorps will provide St Paul and the surrounding communities 5000 computers for free. With the grant Wisdomcorps will purchase recycled and rebuilt but perfectly usable computers from local St Paul recycling and computer companies, putting them in the hands of those organizations and individuals within the St Paul Community who are most in need of free computers.

Imagine what can be done with 5000 “free” computers being supplied to needy organizations and individuals. WisdomCorps envisions adding $5 million dollars a month or $60 million dollars a year in additional value to St Paul. These numbers reflect many different ideas such as reducing costs through remote learning and wisdom sharing, reducing the impact of increased medical costs for seniors and increasing the overall quality of life through social and economic development for those in need.

Wisdomcorps visions the solution for St Paul both from an inter-generational and socio-economic perspective. To best accomplish the task of helping the wonderful variety of individuals found in St Paul, Wisdomcorps will create an online community where younger savvy tech users can better assist seniors, women can form groups with unique needs, even disabled military veterans can become online teachers.

Our primary motive in providing free computers is to create within the St Paul community the most favorable opportunities for social and economic development for everyone. Profit is secondary to Wisdomcorps. This is where Wisdomcorps motto becomes most relevant: “Those that have helping those that don’t’. We sincerely believe the people of St Paul are ready to help others to make their city great.

What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

WisdomCorps considers a free computer better than a micro loan. It’s free! A computer is important financial aid to those who wish to start a small business in St Paul but may not be in a position to purchase one.

Wisdomcorps knows it’s not enough to just give someone a free computer. Wisdomcorps will also create an online community where mentors who “Vision a Valuable Future” for St Paul will offer help and guidance in assisting those who wish to start a business but need help. Our primary motivation is to create the best possible conditions to succeed for those too poor or out of work, seniors needing part time work or even helping disabled military veterans who may not be able to travel to find the help and motivation to become an entrepreneur.

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

Similar to the Peace Corps Mission Statement for developing countries, Wisdomcorps will offer free computers in developing business opportunities within the St Paul Community. Just like the Peace Corps we strongly believe that the computer, and having an understanding of technology, are indispensable tools in building a better life for entrepreneurial individuals, their family and their community. And just like the success the Peace Corps has had in other countries, Wisdomcorps will find success in St Paul.

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

In summary, Wisdomcorps visions putting computers in the hands of people who are made ready and better prepared to share their wisdom and experience in helping others. They will create their own vision which, even through simple word of mouth, can exponentially grow to assist many others in similar need. Along with the St Paul Foundation, through this grant, taking advantage of the tremendous marketing value of the Wisdomcorps name, we sincerely believe will inspire others to join the Wisdomcorps community and grow this program, not only within the local St Paul community but eventually becoming a model for statewide and national programs.
