Les Estivales

Summary:

I spent a summer in Montpellier, France. They had this super fun event every Friday night in the summer called Les Estivales. Les Estivales was basically a summer time wine festival on their main street. Local wine makers would come and serve their wine. The idea was you bought a glass and got to sample a few different wines. They would also sell food, arts, and crafts. There was live music and entertainers. I don't see why this wouldn't be possible in like Rice Park, or some other nice park. Think of it as a high brow state fair/farmer's market. What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

The focus on wine makes it different than a farmer's market or beerfest. You will definitely attract a different sort of clientele. I'm imagining lots of couples and people in the 30+ crowd coming and enjoying the downtown area of the city.

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

This will bring in adults, with money, to St. Paul. If you host it in Rice Park, I wouldn't be surprised if they stuck around for a nearby dinner or walked down the famous arts quarter. If there was a show that corresponded that night, people might meander over to that.

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

I would like to have a very french atmosphere, something you just don't get in many places in North America. Think of Quebec or Montreal. Maybe accordion players, jazz music, artists, street performers, brie, bread, berets, and wine.
