Summary:

How will we use one million dollars to make St. Paul great?

We'll declare Saint Paul the Arts Capital of the Midwest and create a popular destination by developing a unique artist community in the St. Paul Skyway. We're inspired by projects like the Bergamont Station in Santa Monica, the Spanish Village in San Diego, the Artists in Storefronts Project in Minneapolis and the Starling Project in St. Paul.

Artists in the Skyway will exist both as an Artist Business Mentorship Program and a an opportunity to convert vacant Skyway Office spaces into thriving and engaging Art Businesses, Art Studios and Exhibition Spaces.

Much like the mission of the Artists in Storefronts Project, this program exists to help revitalize the St. Paul Skyway System, highlight local creativity and stimulate the local economy. The program also exists as a unique opportunity for artists to experiment with running a business of their own.

The Artists in St. Paul Skyways Project will culminate with a St. Paul Skyway Art and Music Festival.
Artists in Skyways Steps (so far)
1. A call is placed to Skyway Business owners for space rental.
2. A Call to Artists is sent out locally.
3. Selected artists receive a start-up stipend for running their shop.
4. Artists are given a planning period in which they are required to work with a mentor and attend meetings with other Skyway Studio participants.
5. Artists run their Skyway Business.
5. Artists must keep track of sales and submit a report at the end of their Skyway period.

The Skyway system is vast, but there are a few artists who have thriving businesses.
