Summary:

Idea
St. Paul's HISTORY WORLD

My idea is to develop a special destination place in St. Paul called History World. When people attend, they will witness a dynamic and entertaining outline of history, seeing major historic events, locations and people who helped shape and change the world. There will be various period locales, dioramas, projection backgrounds, kiosks, special effects, all complete with informative tour guides and reenactment actors, musicians and singers performing in period costumes. The focus will be on the history of the world as well as a special tribute to the history of St. Paul. This unique destination will be different than and yet a combination of the Science Museum, History Center, Fort Snelling, Renaissance Festival, or live Theater. I have been working on this Since 1983, making ground plans, designs, personnel lists, budgets, material needs and schedules.
As a hometown St. Paul boy I became a teacher with 23 years of secondary/collegiate experience and a theater artist with many companies such as Chanhassen dinner theater, Mixed Blood, Minnesota History theater, the Ordway, Sesame Street tour productions, multiple scenic display shops and more.

How it works
*A building is needed with large spaces or multiple rooms, like an unused School, department store, warehouse, office building or business.

*Personnel needed:
6 Admin/operations 1 yr $280,000
8 Contract labors-building prep 5 wks $60,000
29 Scenic artists/costumers/lighting, etc. 12 wks $217,600

*Materials, equipment and supplies: $250,000.00 (also Donated items)

*TOTAL: $807,600 (Balance: Building, Insurance, Inspections, City)

*Tour guides, actors, singers/musicians will come from Minnesota's enormous talent pool. These will be nonpaid volunteers from the citizens of St. Paul and High School/College/Community theaters.

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

This can be an ongoing venture that becomes self sustaining due to the nature of the talent pool involved with the staging of the various historic scenes within History World. There is a theatre talent community in the twin cities that is second only to new York and our numbers for music talent ranks in the top five nationally. This talent pool idea would be the college, high school, community theatre and non union level performers and some professionals filling positions shown in the idea page of this proposal.
