Saint Paul Services and Support Hubs

Summary:

Saint Paul Public Schools is implementing a Strong Schools Strong Communities initiative which divides the City of Saint Paul into six regions. I think Saint Paul would be great if there was a "support hub" in each area, located in a school or building where families, youth and singles could come to get the resources they need in one place. Services could include access to housing resources, transportation information, employment resources, legal advice, ID's and birth certificate services, and assistance in applying for public assistance. Currently, residents have to go all over the city to access these services. It would be great if they could go to one hub. Agencies and organizations who offer these services could determine how frequently they are on site; perhaps once a week and eventually moving to everyday if possible. The hub would provide wireless services, a copy and fax machine and other essentials for the center to make it easier for the providers to work off site from their regular locations if they rotate staff to provide the service. Because the hubs are throughout the City, they could be a communication center for the city to make announcements of upcoming events and other notifications needed to get out to all community members. Private businesses, faith based organizations and other interested parties intersted in devloping community partnerships could access potential partners all in one place.

What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

The City of Saint Paul and Ramsey County have held one day events which bring resouces together for the day, but no one has developed a permanent place where residents could come for assistance. GAPS in services could be better defined because the requests would be coming into a central place and complied. This information could help funders realize the real GAP in services and help fill these GAPS improving the City of Saint Paul for all residents.

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

By connecting the people of Saint Paul with the services and resouces they need, we halp all of Saint Paul. Employers can connect with potential employees building a stronger work force. When families come to school with a need for resources, the school staff can refer them to a HUB near to the school and will eliminate the need for people to go all over to access some basic services they need. 100 words or 800 characters

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

The services being offered are already being offered by agencies and organizations in our community so their is no great cost to provide the services in a central "hub" location. The cost to maintain the space of the HUB could be paid by the service providers keeping the cost down since the cost is shared by many. 100 words or 800 characters
