The Museum Mall of Saint Paul

Summary:

Let's begin creating the ‘Museum Mall of Saint Paul’ from the soon to be closed Macy’s department store.

As a fantastic year-round attraction, it could be a showcase for both public and private museum quality ‘collections’ from across Saint Paul and Minnesota. So many individuals, families, organizations and companies here have amassed something special that is worthy of publicly showcasing in the heart of Minnesota’s Capital City, whether on a temporary or a long-term basis.

The Museum Mall of Saint Paul would compliment and work in harmony with not only established museums in Saint Paul, but with other, large and small, museums from across the State as well. Many existing museums could have smaller satellite locations here to tell the story of their main museum wherever it may be in this state. Their emphasis could be on cultural, historical and educational exhibits.

In themed display areas on different floors could also be collections of antique automobiles, motorcycles and even tractors too. There could be antique dolls, fine jewelry, furniture, watches and books. What is out there is extensive and holds almost no bounds.

(KSTP-TV's 'On The Road with Jason Davis' has for years given fascinating glimpses of some of the 'collectors' from across this State.)

Seasonal collections could also be on display including those for the Winter Carnival, July Fourth, Halloween and Christmas. And let’s consider moving the exceptional Twin Cities Model Railroad Museum from Bandana Square back to Downtown where it originated nearly eighty years ago.

Lastly, there could be an auction-house here for finer collectibles, and perhaps not so fine collectibles! And, per a recent suggestion by a well-known Saint Paul leader, let's put in a smaller screen movie theatre to show quality Independent and classic films. Both of these attractions would compliment so well the overall theme of "The Museum Mall of Saint Paul'.

What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

It perhaps exists no where else, and can be placed in a City like no place else. The closing of Macy’s is not only an economic hit to the heart of downtown, but it is a hit to the image of this city as well. Let’s take this set-back and rise to the occasion.

This one full-block property has five floors, ample indoor parking, skyway connections and is steps from mass-transit.

The Museum Mall of Saint Paul can appeal to all audiences, of all ages and be a great neighbor to other downtown attractions, businesses and the residential community here too.

This Entry is about (Issues)

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

It immediately takes a big-negative; the closing of Macy’s Department Store, and make’s it a thought-provoking, economically and environmentally sustainable, big-positive for this City. Its ‘blank canvas’ exterior can become beautiful and as instantly recognizable as any famous structure in this City.

The Museum Mall of Saint Paul can join the list as one of this City’s must-see, year-round attractions. It can easily partner with Saint Paul’s marketing efforts to attract visitors, tour groups, conventions, as well as new businesses and residents to Minnesota’s Capital City.

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

The Museum Mall of Saint Paul name would be recognizable and memorable. This new cultural attraction could be housed in a newly renovated and repurposed ‘landmark’ building currently known as Macy's. Its mission would allow people and communities from across this state to collectively participate - its reach would touch the four corners of this State.

The Museum Mall of Saint Paul would help people across Minnesota to better know about the existence of museums and serious collectors within and near their communities.
