Summary:

Let's begin creating the ‘Exploring Minnesota Showcase’ from the soon to be vacated Ramsey County ‘West’ Buildings and the already vacant adjoining Ramsey County Jail. Both buildings, which were constructed along the bluff-line adjacent to Kellogg Boulevard, offer tremendous views of the Mississippi and river valley beyond.

Regarding the West buildings, they could be re-purposed for several levels of fantastic attractions featuring:
- Unique destinations across Minnesota.
- Exhibitions from Minnesota communities, large and small, highlighting their attractions, accommodations and even the products they produce.
- Interactive exhibits highlighting Minnesota’s cultural history.
- An international themed food court serving an affordable variety of Minnesota ethnic foods.
- A Minnesota themed shopping area for house-wares, art, gifts and food.
- Additional floors can offer opportunities for housing and office space.
- And, per a suggestion by a well known Saint Paul leader, create a permanent home for the Minnesota offices of the National Park Service here as well.

Regarding the attached Ramsey County Jail property:
- This architecturally unique property could be a prime location for a premier international hostel affiliated with Hosteling International.
- The unique floor plans here could absolutely be re-purposed for terrific Hostel accommodations.
- Each level could offer a different Minnesota cultural theme, and every room a great river view.

Both properties offer multiple opportunities to create a collection of year-round, self-sustaining attractions and accommodations unique to Saint Paul and Minnesota.

What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

This multi-faceted ‘Exploring Minnesota Showcase’ is unique and can be appropriately placed in a City like no place else. Though these prime, prominent riverfront properties offer a number of redevelopment challenges, they can be effectively addressed. Let’s rise to the occasion.
Combined, these properties, ten and seven floors respectively, are three blocks long. They offer on-site parking below with room for future ramp space. They are steps from mass transit, the skyway system and Saint Paul’s biggest attractions.

The ‘Exploring Minnesota Showcase’ can appeal to all audiences, of all ages and be a great neighbor to other downtown attractions, businesses and the residential community here too.

This Entry is about (Issues)

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

It takes a big-negative; prime, vacant riverfront properties and turns them into thought-provoking, economically and environmentally sustainable, big-positives for this City. Their unique and architecturally varied exteriors can realistically become modified where most needed so they become wholly beautiful and instantly recognizable as are the more famous structures in this City.

The ‘Exploring Minnesota Showcase’ can join the list of this City’s must-see, year-round attractions. It can easily partner with Saint Paul’s marketing efforts to attract visitors, tour groups, conventions, as well as new businesses and residents to Minnesota’s Capital City.

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

An ‘Exploring Minnesota Showcase’ development such as this is memorable and recognizable. Housed in architecturally distinctive, re-purposed ‘landmark’ buildings its overall mission would allow related organizations and certainly people and communities from across this state to collectively participate - its reach would touch the four corners of Minnesota.

It would help visitors to Saint Paul, from near and far, to learn more about Minnesota’s cultural and natural heritage and the exceptional communities throughout this state as well.
