Convert Macys site to 5,000 seat auditorium

Summary:

Convert the existing Macys site to a new five thousand seat reconfigurable auditorium that could house national touring acts that are too big for the numerous 1,500-2,500 seat theaters in MPLS and St. Paul and too small for places like the Xcel Center. In addition, Roy Wilkins Auditorium, the one venue that does seat that many people, should be remodeled into pure convention space, transforming RiverCentre into one of the premiere conventions spaces in the country. These changes would revitalize downtown St. Paul by attracting mid-level popular touring acts that currently skip the Twin Cities because of the Roy's age and bad acoustics. It would also provide an entertainment link between Xcel/7th street and Lowertown/Saints Stadium.

What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

I think this idea is different because it is bold- it is going to take a log more money and buy in than one million dollars. But if that is used as seed money for this idea, St. Paul has the potential to be completly transformed into something special.

This Entry is about (Issues)

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

I think this idea will help downtown St. Paul complete its transformation into an entertainment destination by linking its two existing entertainment districts by anchoring a new one in the middle of downtown. It should also help transform the area around it by stimulating new business growth and general clean up.

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

If my idea were actually to come to fruition, it will be easily recognized through the entertainment and economic stimulation it will provide.
