A Place to Call Home

Summary:

My idea for making Saint Paul a better place, would be to concentrate on the people and families that don't have permanent homes.

It be great to find an abandoned building and turn it into a homeless shelter - one where the families wouldn't have to leave every day. Families/Individuals would have their very own room with beds, a sink, shelves for their belongings, and some furnishings. Meals would be given in lunchroom style and bathrooms would be by gender (like at the mall, with stalls) with separate showers/bath tubs. Hygiene and personal items would be given to them by donations.

There could also be programs to help them better themselves on how to maintain a job, get help with G.E.D's and/or starting college or finding a skill/trade. Their could be on-location daycare for families with small children. People/families/tenants that would occupy the homeless shelter would have steps or a timeline of their living time there, so that way there'd be motivation to get back on their feet/on their own, especially if they have children. I think this all in one home & help place would eleviate people on the streets

What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

I think my idea is different because it takes giving a "home" to the homeless to the next level. Families and individuals wouldn't have to leave each morning wondering if they'd beat the rush to find a place to sleep that night. It's more permanent - yet like a program with steps to eventually get them back on their own feet.

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

I believe my idea would make a difference in Saint Paul, by giving people and families hope. Hope that their is still a reason to have faith in humanity. I know there's already homeless shelters and help programs; but this would be a step up from the normal. Get those poor people off the streets and give them a better life to live for!

It'd benefit area neighborhoods too, break-ins would lessen, people that are homeless would be given opportunities to contribute to society by getting jobs, which therefore would stimulate the economy, as they'd buy necessities and eventually buy homes or get a place of their own. Schools would benefit, as they'd have healthy, fed children coming to school properly dressed, clean and ready to learn. My idea would defiantly make a huge impact.

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

People will recognize and remember my idea, for it's everlasting effects. We'd be helping precious lives. Boosting the economy, and bettering the streets of Saint Paul. It'll inspire others to do something similar because it's worth saving and bettering the lives of others and their families.
