Summary:

University Avenue is one of our city's greatest thoroughfares- and a unique connection to that other city. With the arrival of the new light rail line, University Avenue needs to honor its history, celebrate its present, and form its future.

The Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Festival will bring together businesses, artists, and residents to celebrate this unique street. A parade, bike race, car show, hot-air balloon race, food vendors and music performances will attract regional attention and illustrate the vibrancy and opportunity in this corridor.

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

Rather than focusing on businesses like the Grand Old Day, or a specific demographic group like Rondo Days, this festival will serve a broader purpose, and act more inclusively. It will demonstrate the importance of residents, planners, businesses, artists, schools, and advocates working together to create a balanced and healthy city.
