Monorail Transit System
Summary:
My idea for the St. Paul Challenge is creative, yet realistic. A vision that is different, but practical. And something that offers a bit of "wow" factor that would capture attention and be an attraction. I propose a Monorail Transit System that would not only move people, but connect destinations and highlight the city's charm and character.
The Monorail I envision would be similar to what you find at Disney World (or what is used on the old Green Concourse at MSP airport). It would need to be green (possibly running on natural gas) to be sensitive to the environment and be modern/futuristic with a sleek design, outfitted with wi-fi and decorated with St. Paul themes and attractions.
It might be one closed loop system that would run along Kellogg from the Excel, to RiverCenter to the new Saints ballpark and then loop back around to Rice Park and back to the Excel. Or it could start on the West end of Grand Ave, down to the capitol and around the city.
I'm not proposing "light rail", although this captures certain features of light rail, but something more creative and distinctive from its sister city across the river, something that is unique just to St. Paul - I'm proposing "Monorail".

Innovation
What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
Unlike light rail or subways a monorail system is sleek and elevated allowing the designer to go over and around existing infrastucture but allowing the passenger a different/unique perspective from their elevated height. The passengers will be able to enjoy the landscape and soak in the St. Paul experience while being whisked to their destination. It's modern, futuristic, different and practical.

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
"It's not just the destination, but the journey". Those who are coming to St.Paul for a Wild game, convention, Saints game or other attractions can reduce their carbon footprint by riding the new monorail and those who don't often get to St. Paul will now have one more reason to make the effort and not only enjoy their destination, but the journey to get there.
Sustainability
Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
First and foremost this is a mass transit project that will move large quantities of people from one destination to another. The more people that can be moved on a single apparatus, the smaller the carbon footprint on our world. Additionally, if this transit system can be powered by a cheap and clean burning fuel/power source like battery or natural gas this becomes an even greater sustainable and enviable attraction for our states capitol.
