Summary:

I propose that St. Paul Foundation commission St. Paul filmmaker Peter Myers to team up once against with Twin Cities Public TV to create a promotional film to be shown throughout the world, showing what a great city St. Paul is for residence, business, vacation, convention and more. The non-profits will be Minnesota Historical Society and TCPT.
Mr. Myers will use the technique Ken Burns uses so well to extract historic still photos from the archives of the Minnesota Historical Society to depict St. Paul's colorful past and contrast it with its capabilities to serve its residents and various institutions in today's fast-changing world.
These would include profiling our many highly successful businesses---now global citizens themselves---our great education institutions, our great artistic organizations, such as the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Ordway Center, our great communications organizations who call St. Paul home such as the St. Paul Pioneer Press, TPT and KSTP, our great diversity of population, our diverse religious organizations, our history as the state's capitol city and certainly St. Paul as home to St. Paul Foundation and many other great non-profits.

What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

Mr. Myers, the Minnesota Historical Society and Twin Cities Public TV who previously produced a highly acclaimed documentary about St. Paul businesses on the new light rail line have proved to be a winning team and will do it again under the aegis of St. Paul Foundation and this highly creative, challenging competition.

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

Mr. Myers not only is a terrific filmmaker but a first-class PR person and even as the film is being shown on TPT and placed in its permanent rotation, he would be distributing it around the world to those who are always looking for new and attractive destinations for everything from relocating or starting new businesses to collaborating with our many established firms headquartered here and working with our colleges and universities, and bringing with them the kind of people who will lead St. Paul's growth and who also will hire native St. Paulites for generations to come.Their combined contributions will have strong positive effects on St. Paul far into the future.

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

The cost of producing and distributing such a film will be minuscule compared to the returns it will provide St. Paul for generations to come and St. Paul Foundation will forever be recognized as the linchpin organization that made this all happen, adding another dimension to the Foundation's already monumental contributions to St. Paul to Minnesota and to our people.
