The Tiffany Mile
Summary:
We invite stained glass artists to sell their work in consecutive windows and create a beautiful corridor that will draw people from all over the world to walk or ride The Tiffany Mile. Every month we auction off the artworks online and replace them with new glass artistry, keeping a percentage of the proceeds to fund insurance, lighting, and other costs. The great thing about stained glass is it will draw people inside the buildings during the day to see the art backlit by natural daylight. At night we backlight the works from inside so people can enjoy them as they walk or ride the lightrail down University Avenue. We recruit volunteers (including participating shopkeepers) to serve on an Arts Panel to choose the works and keep the project running. Once we get it up and running and the tourists start pouring in, we should be able to fill the corridor with food service shops and craft shops of different cultures.

The Tiffany Mile will help St Paul reinvent itself as an artists town. No place on Earth will be able to match its stunning crafted ever-changing beauty.
Impact
This Entry is about (Issues)
How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
It will draw tourists from all over and be considered one of the Wonders of the World. St. Paul will become a destination city known for its wondrous beauty. The central corridor lightrail line will get a significant boost in ridership at night when the trains would otherwise be mostly empty.
Sustainability
Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
Great beauty tends to be remembered. Others communities may be inspired to feature other kinds of art and create their own miracle miles. Once we get it up and running we can use some of the funds to transform the Mississippi River corridor into a thing of beauty too, with flower beds on both banks and fishing gondolas.
