Saint Paul Film

Summary:

I have an idea for a film that also can be translated into an opera, a musical and a TV special designed to help settle differences between Israelis and Arabs, Jews and Palestinians and all of the resources to produce this project are right here in St. Paul.

With the production and global distribution of such a film, St. Paul would become an international capitol of peacemaking and a destination of others involved in promulgating peace and other forms of progress around the world.

Once again, I would suggest a collaboration of St. Paul filmmaker Peter Myers, Twin Cities Public TV but I would add American Public Media: two St. Paul-based non-profits with proven track records and great reputations for quality and innovation in their respective fields.

I have been told by leaders of the peace movement that such a film could be significant in bringing the two sides together and ending the series of violence episodes that have caused so much misery for people on both sides.

I also have been told by locally-based musicians and those in theater that the idea has high artistic potential and great commercial potential and if produced, could easily pay for itself with no ideological compromise.

Can you imagine what production of this project would mean to St. Paul and St. Paul Foundation?

It would add another huge dimension to St. Paul Foundation's already sterling record of achievement and open an entirely new area of activity.

Friends, we need to be far-sighted, to see well beyond St. Paul as "only" the state capitol of Minnesota, home of a hockey team, home to many great colleges and universities, home to a diverse population but also home to people with global vision who want to make not only St. Paul a better place to live and work, visit and convene but to reach out and help our sisters and brothers around the world enjoy the same productive, peaceful lives that we do.
What could be more worthwhile than this?

What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

No one ever has proposed such a daring, sweeping, far-sighted idea whose time clearly has come for St. Paul and for St. Paul Foundation. No longer will St. Paul play second fiddle to Minneapolis; it may become vice versa. St. Paul will become known around the world for its sophistication and not just ice hockey. Who ever envisioned St. Paul as a global peace center until now? This is not a pipe dream but an idea which, with the proper deployment of resources, can become reality and dramatically change the character of St. Paul forever.

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

It will put St. Paul on the world map as a destination city for political meetings of people from all over the world. It will revitalize Downtown St. Paul, require new hotels, special meeting places and even an International Peace Center. Businesses of all kinds will thrive; people from around the world also will discover St. Paul as a destination city for tourism, business relocation and expansion and residence: a good place to raise a family in a family-oriented city and live in an exciting, stimulating international city which will retain the historic cultural and environmental characteristics we all enjoy as will others.

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

I believe my idea will work and will thus write St. Paul into history books around the world as the place where the idea that finally brought lasting peace to Arabs and Jews was developed and promulgated worldwide, serving as a template for other peacemakers long into the future. I see t he St. Paul Foundation Peace Center partially funding its operations by conducting classes here and globally online in peacemaking and other international affairs, using St. Paul and other Minnesota peacemakers and academicians as adjunct faculty.
