Summary:

The Minnesota Transportation Museum is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and would like to create the Saint Paul Historic Railway. The initial plan is to construct a dedicated Historic Railway track from the MTM museum at the 1907 Jackson Street Roundhouse on Pennsylvania Avenue, north of the State Capital, to the St. Paul Union Depot and the Science Museum of Minnesota.

For over 35 years the Minnesota Transportation Museum has run historic tourist railways. First in Stillwater, Minnesota and now it operates the Osceola & St. Criox Valley Railway in Osceola, Wisconsin.

We are working with the Ramsey County Regional Rail Authority to bring this wealth of experience to the City of Saint Paul. We will use our restored historic railway equipment to create a new and unique tourist destination in Saint Paul. The Historic Railway will link Lowertown to the Minnesota Transportation Museum. It will also reconnect part of St. Paul's past, joining the Jackson Street Roundhouse where the steam locomotives were serviced to the Union Depot where passengers boarded the Empire Builder to "Ride the Rails" to Seattle.
