Summary:

To create for St. Paul a visual identity / icon around which all our neighborhoods, residents and merchants can together rally. Our existing skyways... can be regularly programmed (to celebrate the arts, business neighborhoods and cultures of the whole city) re-engergized, re-lit and altogether re-imagined as a distinctive visual metaphor for "connecting" and "bridging" the city's many neighborhoods, functions, identities and cultures. THE visual icon for the city... akin to Seattle's "Space Needle" and St. Louis's "Gateway Arch."

What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

It celebrates the vibrant community life through programming and re-imaging the existing skyways (instead of denigrating them which is currently the rage across the river).

This Entry is about (Issues)

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

Every community needs an idea and imagery around which to rally. The skyways, while they exist in downtown, are a source of distinctive pride for all residents... even if they only drive through downtown. If folded into the city's core marketing, the images could quickly become a strong visual metaphor for Saint Paul's commitment to "connecting" and "bridging" its many neighborhoods, businesses and cultures.

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

These newly reimagined "living skyways" could not help but inspire residents, visitors and outside observers alike. Programmed to regularly celebrate the arts, business, neighborhoods and cultures of the city
