Urban Treehouse Resort

Summary:

Would you vacation in downtown St. Paul? Or are you turned off by the idea of coming home to an uninspired, business-style hotel after a day of exploring the city? Let’s face it: despite its cultural amenities, St. Paul is not exactly known as a weekend getaway. One simple idea could change all that: an urban nature resort smack in the middle of the city. Providing a unique urban adventure, America’s first urban treehouse resort would welcome visitors and residents in the wooded areas at the shore of the Mississippi, just a stones' throw away from all that St. Paul has to offer. Elevated one- or two bedroom cabins would not only provide a cozy home, but camp-like amenities would provide the kind of companionship and campfire romance that makes every trip special. Kids would have plenty of space to play (rope swings included!) and adults would get just the right mix of urban sophistication during the day, and time to unwind in nature at night.

What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

As far as we know, this has not been done anywhere in the world, so St.Paul would be the first city to have an urban treehouse resort. It would allow people to experience the ambiance of camping while being able to explore the city. We can't think of a better way to showcase the distinct advantage of St. Paul and the Twin Cities--the incredible nature experience that that can be had right within the urban core. The resort would epitomize the sustainability and creativity that are the hallmark of 21st century cities, while providing a deep connection with our surroundings that is often lacking.

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

The Treehouse Resort would infuse St. Paul with the kind of energy, creativity and authenticity that define a great city, creating the kind of ambiance that will allow other ideas to thrive as well.
The resort could be located in multiple sites along the river or in any heavily wooded area, bringing increased use to under-utilized parks or riverfronts. It would provide a place for exploration for urban youth through educational school trips or family outings.
It would also increase the property value in its vicinity, reconnect people with nature, and, of course, attract more tourists to our part of the country.

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

I believe that the idea is one that will define the city like no other in recent history, energizing the creative base, while also reinvigorating eduction and local business.
Not only is it an idea that is very equitable - camping being accessible to people of all stripes - but it also provides a vision of what St. Paul could and will be in the future.
The project could be sustained by camping fees. If successful, it could be replicated in different locations throughout the metro area and provide a novel way to vacation in nature close to home. Who knows, it might even become an inspiration for other cities throughout the world!
