Summary:

The Indoor St. Paul Off Road Cycling Center will be a series of off road bicycle trails built in a large unused industrial or retail space. Several levels of trails will be available built for races, skill building and even X-Games like jumps and stunts. The ISPORCC will be a gathering place and focal point for the active people in and around the Twin Cities. At the core, it will serve a very active cycling community here in the Twin Cities. However, it's reach will be much wider. It will also serve the rest of Minnesota and the states around us as a destination through our long winters. Within the Twin Cities, it will encourage all the great things about mountain biking; physical activity, camaraderie and problem solving in a welcoming environment.

The ISPORCC will be built in large indoor facility in a centrally located spot, with 100,000 square feet of space. Great candidates are empty big box retail stores, old warehouses or even the Island Station Power Plant. $1 Million would go a long way to paying for the space, materials and utilities. We will work with the extensive biking community here in MN along with the International Mountain Biking Association to build the trails themselves.

This Entry is about (Issues)

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

The impact of the ISPORCC will be felt through many avenues. The easiest to see is encouraging healthier residents, but we're also making St. Paul a destination within the Midwest for healthy active folks. St. Paul already has a presence in the action sports world with Crashed Ice and we will be able to expand on that with biking events that aren't dependent on the weather. The ISPORCC can also act as a showcase for our bicycle focused and fitness focused local companies in addition to a training center for up and coming cyclists.

Sustainability

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

The success of ISPORCC will be dependent on addressing three aspects of sustainability. Financial Sustainability will be achieved through the sale of memberships, daily passes and through corporate sponsorship. The tenets of environmental sustainability will be furthered through use of green building materials, re-purposing of an old building and environmentally sound practices. Social Sustainability will be achieved through the cultivation of a welcoming open community.
