Summary:

Create vibrant and successful manufacturing co-op for building high quality community building products. Products would be built by high skilled trades people trained through an premier apprenticeship program.

Urban young people high school through 24 would join an intensive apprenticeship program to learn how to be business managers and marketers, welders, and wood-workers. The products they would build would include multi-person commuter and cargo bikes (currently not manufactured in the US) and popular artisan boats/Kayaks.

This would provide a wonderful job training and employment opportunity as well as supply products that build quality of life and sustain our environment.

These trades are becoming lost arts and these products are increasing in popularity so they make a great fit. They fit a unmet niche so there is a business opportunity. There are already two organization with mission that would fit this work underway in St. Paul, Urban Boat Builders and Cycles of Change.

This is a self-sustainable business that builds community and provides products that will make our future better.

What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

Manufacturing seems dead but it isn't. to make products that improve peoples lives more accessible (financially and socially) we need them to be produced locally.

There is also a great approach to address our nation leading employment gaps in one area. By bringing the pride of a highly skilled trade to young people lives are transformed even if they go on to more or different things.

This isn't heavy labor but a labor of love, for some it will fill a void in their lives.
