Summary:
The best way to improve a 'place' is to empower the 'people' of that place to realize their human potential. That will result in those people accomplishing the improvement of 'their place'. Becoming St. Paul: Igniting Our Potential will improve St. Paul by developing the human potential of every St. Paul citizen by providing all residents with the opportunity to become more effective in how they think, learn and communicate. Powerful, practical, easily understood and immediately applicable concepts will be utilized to bring about and sustain positive change for individuals, families and our community. Some of these include:
A. Becoming aware of our thinking so we know when our thinking is working in our best interest and when it is not.
B. Knowing how to see things differently.
C. Learning from mistakes.
D. Creating a culture of safety.
E. Resolving conflict more effectively.
F. Eliminating negativity.
G. Focusing and listening in the zone.
This initiative will target, train and network key community groups including business and community leaders, ethnic groups, students, teachers and coaches, parents, senior citizens, and clergy. In addition, training sessions will be made available through various mediums (live presentations, internet, video) to every St. Paul resident free of charge.

We want St. Paul and its residents to become the best we can possibly be. Becoming St. Paul: Igniting Our Potential is unique because it will benefit all residents of St. Paul in several facets of their life. It will focus on the human development of each person in our community which is an endeavor never previously undertaken by a city of this size. It will awaken in each person a power he/she already possess, the power to make a positive difference in his/her life and the lives of others, and will provide him/her with thinking, learning and communicating skills to do that.

Becoming St. Paul: Igniting Our Potential will provide residents with a common language and proven strategies that will strengthen and unite our families, schools, businesses, organizations neighborhoods and ultimately result in the positive transformation of our St. Paul community as a whole. As our national culture becomes more and more negative, a culture that undermines the inherent worthiness of our youth and adults and diminishes our natural gifts and talents, St. Paul will become a positive example of what is possible for all America.
Sustainability
Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
Individuals throughout the nation are already examples of this endeavor. As they have learned and used the thinking, learning and communicating skills that will be presented in Becoming St. Paul: Igniting Our Potential, they have been inspired to share this awareness with others and have the personal experiences and language to do so. The residents of Fairmont, Minnesota, have undertaken this endeavor as a community and are becoming a model city of what is possible when the development of human potential becomes a personal and community goal.
