Summary:

Saint Paul Ambassador Program – “Who you going to ask?”

Goal: Enhance the downtown experience for visitors, residents and employees in the downtown Saint Paul at a time when the city is poised for new growth and expanded economic development. Ambassadors are the community supported guides who can assist the public with questions, share advice on what to do and where to go and make sure they are doing everything possible to help people enjoy their City of St. Paul experience.

When people come to our downtown, we want them to have a great time regardless if it’s their first time or not. We are proud of our community and we want to make the experience of visiting St. Paul a positive one every time they are here.

Our idea: Ambassadors who understand Saint Paul, are prepared to answer questions, and trained to be an effective resource for our downtown.

It is great when you meet someone who has the answers to your questions, can share their favorite things with you, and instantly makes you feel safe and welcome. The Saint Paul Ambassador program will be a way to make sure visitors feel safe, welcome and inspired by the interaction they have with people when they are here..

St. Paul Ambassadors
S. Paul Ambassadors are the specially trained and prepared greeters on the street that assist the public get around town and find the places they are looking for. These Ambassadors also will keep the city clean by picking up trash and litter on the sidewalks and in and around our parks. They will be trained to know what to do in the case of a crisis, trained in customer service and instantly recognizable by the uniforms they wear.

In addition these Ambassadors will; Offer suggestions on where to go and what to do, give directions, keep an eye out for you and help keep our city clean and safe!

We would work with the local network of non-profits to attract a diverse workforce. Providing jobs for people who need them most!

What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

What makes this idea unique and unexpected is there currently isn't a program like this in our Capital City. Other cities in Minnesota have an Ambassador program up and running and we will model their best practices.

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

People will recognize the Ambassador idea after it comes to life through the uniforms they wear and the promotion we put in place about the program.

We have discussed this idea with a multitude of partners who will help to sustain this project once it is up and running. Our collaborating partners include; Visit St. Paul, Ecolab, Xcel Energy, Goff Public, St. Paul Chamber of Commerce, Securian, St. Paul Police Department, Actors Theatre, Saint Paul Saints and the St. Paul Police Foundation.

The Ambassador program will inspire other communities to engage in making their cities more friendly, safer, greener and cleaner. This program will put pride in their cities!
