Saint Paul Bluffside Cable Car
Summary:
One of the scenic views of downtown Saint Paul is from Smith Avenue S. and S. Cherokee Avenue area - the southeast end of the High Bridge. I propose building a bluffside cable car near that location to go up in elevation approximately 150 feet. This cable car would be a tourist attraction similar to Dubuque's Fenelon Place Elevator. It would provide public transportation for pedestrians and bicyclists who wish to visit Lilydale/Harriet Island Regional Park. And it would better connect the Riverview Cherokee neighborhood to the Mississippi River.

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
The Saint Paul Bluffside Cable Car would encourage development, as tourists and locals would frequent the area. I could envision a building with a wonderful patio on top of the bluff that overlooks the river valley and downtown. It could house a Saint Paul River history center along with concessions or a small outdoor restaurant akin to The Tin Fish at Lake Calhoun.
Sustainability
Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
The Saint Paul Bluffside Cable Car would be iconic and recognizable. If it was done in the style of the historic street cars, it would evoke a sense of history.
