The Minnesota World's Fair -- bring the World's Fair to Minnesota in 2022-23
Summary:
Highlights of the idea: The World's Fair has not been in the U.S. since 1984. Bringing it to Minnesota with strong ties to St. Paul would allow us to host "the largest cultural event in the world", the "intellectual equivalent of the Olympics" and "bring a world trade mission to Minnesota." It would
* bring an estimated 10-15 million people into our area to see the Fair over the course of four months
* result in a tourism influx of from $10-15 billi on dollars
* promote broadly throughout the world the intellectual, cultural, innovative, industrious and business excellence of our diverse communities and people
* spur lasting and sustainable economic development -- especially in areas like the East Side of the Metro -- which has been left behind in recent economic booms
* leave behind an infrastructure of mixed use housing, office complexes, cultural centers and incubation opportunities in addition to an iconic structure that would be a visible symbol of the area for the entire world
* create 10s of thousands of jobs during construction and operation of the Fair and many more in the thriving economic development area left afterward.
* catalyze valuable improvements in the transportation system including mass transit in the metro area and reaching out to high-speed transportation modes to Duluth, Rochester, Chicago and elsewhere
* Bring the people of St. Paul and the whole metro area closer together in a common effort of building, promoting, hosting and, yes, bragging about all the things we have pride in.

Innovation
What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
No World's Fair has been held in the United State since 1984. This would be a revived idea in a different more modern form that can appeal to two generations of attendees -- those who remember them and those who have never heard of them. It would be a "modern fair" highlighting the innovation that takes place in the next ten years and would do what World's Fairs always do: spur the innovation of the future in virtually every avenue of humankind from art to technology to cultural and political interaction of the many countries -- over 100 - that would attend. This is the place to let ideas and imagination run rampant: Worlds Fairs Are Innovation!
Impact

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
St. Paul and the east side of the metro have been second-class as development targets in recent years, this would help bring equity. Bolstering the economic opportunity of the St. Paul area assists the whole metro in attracting a higher level of world class trade, cultural exchanges and opportunity – and builds on St. Paul’s growing strength in those areas. This kind of initiative supports a variety of local energies and assists in giving support to other local efforts to build community, job opportunities and visibility. Unlike a short-term convention, this is a longer-term commitment to both the celebration we bring but to the development we leave.
Sustainability
Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
Implementation of this idea implemented would launch St. Paul (and the metro area) into the world consciousness like nothing before ever connected with this community. It would leave behind an iconic structure serving as a symbol of the majesty of the ideas and people celebrated by the fair -- just like the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Space Needle in Seattle did for those cities. The innovations spotlighted by the Fair would remain an historical marker for the development and values of a great community and the world. The United States again hosting the worlds countries would remind the world of our leadership legacy. too, often blurred by the frictions and fluctuations of world politics. Success here would remind all of our nation's ability to inspire cooperation in world relations.
