St Paul
Ready, Set, Action
Summary:
I would suggest using the money to help St Paul (either Downtown, West Side or West Seventh) build a modern theater to show current mainstream and independent films. Ideally this would show great movies like they show in Landmark theaters at Uptown/Lagoon/Edina theaters but in an environment like the new ICON theaters in St Louis Park, with beverage service for adults.

Innovation
What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
A clean, comfortable theater, showing good movies is a steady source of traffic and way to keep people and bring people into our city.
Impact
This Entry is about (Issues)
How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
Currently most people need to leave St Paul if they want to see a movie in a modern seat or at a place that serves food/drinks. In addition people from Eastern Suburbs need to drive through St Paul to Uptown Minneapolis, Edina or western suburbs if they want to see an independent or arts film. So if St Paul could figure out a way to retain or attract these people it could be a steady way to bring in a couple of hundred people a week, who in turn would pay for parking, eat at local restaurants and spend their money in our town. By carefully selecting the films, this could be implemented in a way that minimizes impact on existing St Paul Theaters or will at least get them to update their seats.
Sustainability
Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
A great new, modern movie theater should be able to have a lasting effect for many years. If it is a destination then people will remember the time they saw a particular movie, went on that date, etc.
