The Show
Summary:
I am a social worker in the field of disabilities and I am an artist. Over the 20 years that I have been a social worker, I have seen many art works created by artist with disabilities. These artist rarely get a chance to promote and sell their work in the mainstream art world. If they are featured in a public gallery or shop it is usually brief and not during peek times. It has become very discouraging for me to see these great pieces of art work sitting in store rooms for few to see or buy. So I have started a non profit. This non profit will be a retail art store called "The Show".
"The Show" will sell all kinds of local art, but will specialize in promoting and selling art created by local artist with disabilities.
The name "The Show" has two meanings. One meaning is that of a baseball player making it to the major league, going to "The Show". The second meaning is, having art work in a "Show".
"The Show" will be a fun, inviting place to experience and buy art in St.
Paul. It will be perfectly located in Lowertown near the new St. Paul Saints Stadium. What a great way to connect baseball with art and artist with disabilities to the Lowertown art district. It's a win win! This one of a kind non profit will be located in the heart of St. Paul's art district, Lowertown, which will for the first time ever, give artist with disabilities equal access to the Twin Cities art scene. With the new light rail, these artist will actually be able to get to "The Show" to promote and sell their work. The mission of "The Show" is to promote awareness, foster dialogue about context of art creation, and create an environment where all artists are welcome regardless of training and background. Our vision is to create a space that represents a unique amalgamation of artist unlike anything else currently in the Twin Cities.
