The Platinum Rule
Summary:
Everyone's heard of The Golden Rule: Treat others as you would like to be treated. The Platinum Rule is treating others as THEY would like to be treated. This means you need to know the other person - your neighbor, your co-worker - so you can know how they want to be treated. Your neighbors and co-workers would need to do the same for you.
The Platinum Rule would be promoted through billboards, PSAs, emails, block clubs, businesses, museums, units of government - wherever two or more people gather. It's catch and easy to remember - and everyone can do it!

Innovation
What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
The Platinum Rule would provide a framework for those living in, working in, and visiting Saint Paul to communicate with each other - to learn how to listen and ask good questions of each other, creating community through relationships. We all know how we would like to be treated by others - but we may know realize that others may wish to be treated differently. We can only discover this by asking and listening to each other.
Impact
This Entry is about (Issues)
How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
The essence of community is interpersonal connections. Without these connections, the web of community does not exist. As Saint Paul becomes increasingly more diverse, we can no longer assume that everyone sees the world in the same way. The Platinum Rule would help all those who live in, work in, and visit Saint Paul know that these differences exist, and that we can learn how to be different together in community.
Sustainability
Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
The Platinum Rule would be promoted through billboards, PSAs, emails (like e-democracy), block clubs, businesses. It's catch and easy to remember - and everyone can do it!
