Building a Bridge to Complete Safe North South Route in Saint Paul

Summary:

I propose a bicycle-pedestrian bridge over the railroad tracks running north of Pierce Butler at Chatsworth Street. Chatsworth is already identified as a bicycle friendly route north and south through our city. Creating a bridge across the railroad tracks would fill the final blockade and make the first safe north south route in this part of the city.

Currently Saint Paul has a series of wonderful east west routes. But try to get to Como Park and points north from Summit Avenue. It is difficult only a few heavily utilized streets cross the freeway, University Avenue and multiple railroad tracks lines north of Pierce Butler.

What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

The Chatsworth alignment creates the opportunity to make something more of the City, allowing people to reach north to Como Park and further north along Victoria Street. The route is already being used as people, trespass across the tracks at Chatsworth. Lets make it safe and legal with a bridge that spans the tracks.

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

Realizing that Bicycles are going to plan an ever increasing role in our transportation would make this a memorable and worth idea. It is a major step in reinforcing north south movement by many of Saint Paul citizens.

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

If you ride a bicycle, you will remember the idea. If you drive a car you’ll not notice that many bicycles have stopped getting in your way on Fairview, Snelling, Lexington or Dale Street. If your kids are out riding you’ll be glad they have one more safe route to travel and explore the wonderful neighborhoods north and south of Summit.
