Summary:

The Forever Saint Paul Challenge has created a unique opportunity to assess what is important to those living in, working in, and visiting Saint Paul. AFC would allow the Saint Paul Foundation and the Minnesota Idea Open to analyze all of the submissions by topic, geographic, and demographic areas, and to identify common themes. The FSPC would then encourage collaboration among the entries, for a cooperative -rather than competitive - process.

What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

The flavor of the day in philanthropy seems to be these competitive online challenges. Instead, AFC would identify the themes and ideas of most important to those living in, working in, and visiting Saint Paul - and provide a process for collaboration to create one big idea about which all could agree. This idea is not the big idea itself, but a means to come to the best idea for all of Saint Paul.

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

The creation of a collaborative process - with participants based upon the identified themes from contest entries - would help ensure not just a big idea - but the best idea for Saint Paul - and the best use of the $1,000,000 for all.

Sustainability

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

Procedural justice is the concept that people are happier with the outcome if they are involved in the process. A collaborative experience among those who entered the competition would help ensure the sustainability of the biggest - and best - idea. The process could mirror that used to generate the entries: involving the community, but being more than just a popularity contest.
