Community Venture Capital
Summary:
My idea is to use the 1 Million dollars to create an organization focused on the development and sustainability of the local economy through providing capital and capacity building around entrepreneurship. This organization would essentially be a Community Venture Capital organization that invests in the next big idea, but also in the everyday businesses that are necessary to make St. Paul 'the most livable city.'

Innovation
What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
This organization would have two distinct goals:
1) Create an atmosphere in St. Paul where innovation can thrive - where the next 3M, Intel, or Facebook could be born in St. Paul.
2) Create a vibrant and healthy local economy that prioritizes local ownership and local connection through investment and consultation with local businesses
Impact

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
See Innoavation section:
This impact this organization would have is pretty self evident. St. Paul can position itself as a hub on innovation an economy that will be increasingly dependent upon innovation and deeper meaning in products and services. This means good jobs, attracting people to the city, and a healthy civic culture that fosters collaboration between government, enterprise, and the community.
There is also the opportunity to develop and promote local businesses. We cannot simply rely on the next big idea to help make St. Paul a great place to live and work, but we need strong locally owned businesses providing the an increasing share of the goods and services the residents of St. Paul (and the larger metro area) need everyday. We can help these businesses thrive.
Sustainability
Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)
Developing the next big idea, and simultaneously building local business requires capital. Which is why the Forever St. Paul Challenge gift is so important to getting this idea off of the ground. If properly managed - and leveraged in a way to raise additional funding - this 1 million dollar prize can live on into perpetuity and have a sustained and meaningful impact to St. Paul
