We're All Good Neighbors

Summary:

What does it mean to be a "Good Neighbor"? Who defines "good"? For some people, it can be looking out for each other, sharing information and resources. For others, it can be minding your own business, keeping to yourself. Who decides? And how do these differing perspectives co-exist? Everyone wants to be a good neighbor - we just might see things differently. We're All Good Neighbors would open the conversation in Saint Paul neighborhoods, businesses, faith communities, and public entities (like museums and government) to help us learn to work and live together constructively.
Everyone can learn to communicate and resolve conflict constructively - and to become a Good Neighbor (however it may be defined). WAGN would help bridge the differences in understanding - connecting neighbors and communities.

What makes your idea different or unexpected? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

No one wants to be a Bad Neighbor - and people are often surprised when another neighbor (or co-worker or community member) describes them in that way. Almost 100% of the time conflict stem from differing definitions of "good" and "neighbor" or 'Neighborly" WAGN would help Saint Paulites recognize that there are differt definations and perspectives, which are not necessarily good or bad. Through education, training, promotion, and community gatherings, WAGN would help everyone be Good Neighbors.

This Entry is about (Issues)

How will your idea make a difference in Saint Paul? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

Unresolved conflict takes a toll on community: it can result in mental and physical health problems - and people will relocate rather than trying to connect with their neighbors. WAGN would be an intentional way for all of Saint Paul to become Good Neighbors.

Why do you think people will recognize or remember your idea after it comes to life? How might it inspire others to do something similar in their community? (4000 characters maximum or approx. 500 words)

We're All Good Neighbors would become an informal motto for Saint Paul - through advertising on buses and billboards, social media and block clubs. No one wants to be a Bad Neighbor!
