Summary:

A branded media/video campaign that would motivate and excite people about healthy eating. Educational and entertaining approach with a series of short DVD’s lasting 1 minute each that inspires and informs families on quick and easy ways to get a meal on the table! Utilize an on-camera registered dietitian with culinary skills as the host. Distribute the videos through social media networks as well as community access TV channels, healthcare institutions, local health departments and schools. This project addresses a common dilemma – WHAT’S FOR DINNER and LET’S MAKE IT TASTE GOOD AND BE HEALTHY TOO! I have personally written, produced and hosted similar projects. How do you define your "community"?

My community members are challenged with the daily task of preparing quick, healthy and tasty meals. Southeastern MN residents do not have easy access to educational media tools. I am recognized in the community and this media/dvd tool would be well received.

Tell us how you think the issue of obesity is affecting your community

As a professional registered dietitian I experience first-hand the health effects of a poor diet and lifestyle. Likewise, after education and gradual behavior change, I have seen many people make life-long changes that have enhanced their quality of life and improved their health and risk of disease. People in my community have recently experienced weight gain due to stress-related behaviors. Many have stated that job-related stress has promoted this weight gain.

Why should your idea be selected?

Visual tools are more effective than books or articles when it comes to learning how to choose and prepare healthy foods. I have the expertise and ability to translate healthy living into an media tool that will help inspire and promote change in my communities eating patterns. I can videotape and produce high quality DVD's that are cost-effective.
