Water Art
Describe how you would use $15,000 to help your community become aware of and address water issues in Minnesota.
I would collect empty, recyclable plastic bottles from students. For every 25 bottles collected by an individual student, I would give them a reusable water bottle with tips for saving water printed on it. The school that collects the most bottles will win a water awareness/play day, in which the school will come together and make a sculpture out of the bottles we collected and do a school wide education day about water issues in Minnesota.
How do you define your "community"?. How are water issues affecting your community?
My community is the city I live it. Every time I go out on my bicycle or walk down the streets, I am experiencing my community. Water issues affect my community every time water is used frivolously or mistreated. Despite our beautiful lakes and river, they are polluted and mistreated. When the lakes and rivers that shaped my city suffer, my community suffers.
Innovation
Describe how your idea is creative.
My idea incorporates art, community, and education to reach the population that most needs to be made aware of issues while they're still willing to change their habits.
Impact
Describe how how you expect your idea to make a difference in your community.
My idea will serve to educate children, bring together community, and leave a lasting piece of art to remind the community of the importance of water.
Sustainability and Growth
Describe how your idea will "stick" in your community and how you think it could be repeated in other communities.
My idea will "stick" mostly through the long lasting piece of art, and through the water bottles distributed all throughout the city. Both will serve as a constant reminding of the importance of water conservation.
