Currently I work as a SNAP Outreach Intern for Second Harvest Heartland and have seen firsthand how discrimination works in our society, whether based on race, class, culture, ability, sexuality, gender expression, or criminal record, when applying for jobs, food stamps, housing, or public assistance. I've also been working on farms, rural and urban, for the past six years and know how much work must be done to create a truly just food system. I understand how hunger works through urban food deserts and rural poverty.
